Well, spent the morning at the deli. We are having our kitchen redone, and well, any excuse to hide for a few hours. I met up with an old friend, we will just call 'Mabel's Mate', who I hadn't seen for absolutely ages. I had three large coffees, extra strength, fully caffeinated, and left feeling slightly queasy and certainly very jittery. MM and I moaned and grizzled about the banes of our life and felt so much better afterwards. It does wonders to have a good bitch now and again.
Now to Mr Darcy. I live very close to Lyme Park where the Derbyshire parts of Pride and Prejudice were filmed. In the park there is the famous pool where Colin Firth (....mmm) dived in and swam underwater and emerged the other side with a wet, clingy blouse looking oh so yummy. (I also like the bit when Miss Bennett is playing the piano with his sister, and Darcy sort of smoulders as he stares at her). This pool is now known as 'Darcy's Pool' and it is a favourite place of Badger's as she also likes to hurl herself in the pool and swim amongst the weed. Unfortunately she isn't as sexy as Mr Darcy, so the effect is somewhat lost. Now this pool is not much more than an over-grown pond and has very muddy sides at the moment, on account of global warming chucking lots of rain at us. As I slipped and fell in the fast flowing stream (usually a torpid little affair) I didn't want to chance my luck at the pool.
Another favourite part of the park is 'cage hill'. The cage is a tower that used to house captured soldiers in the Napoleonic wars. There was one part of P and P when Mr Darcy gallopped off on a big stallion between an avenue of trees. That was up Cage Hill. On one website for Lyme Park it states the Cage Tower was a hunting lodge. Hunting lodge indeed. It was for prisoners. Also on another Lyme Park webside it shows a very grand looking lake in front of Lyme Hall. (Pemberley). This is NOT the pool Darcy leapt into.
That's enough about Darcy for the time being. Incidentally, the photo today is not of MM, but one I took a while back. I forgot to take my camera with me today.
