Cherries

It's cherry season again and Netto is brimming over with cherries. Mmmm .. lovely, lovely cherries.

My most enjoyable memory of cherries is from way back when I was at school. My friend Charmian and I went on a trip to the Planetarium in London. Outside was a cherry seller and we bought a punnet each. When the lights went down and the show began, we started to eat our cherries. Not wishing to drop the stones on the floor, we just spat them out as far as we could, practising our aim. We got really rather good at it. 'Try that girl over there' one of us would whisper, and the first one to hit her with a stone won. I know, I know. We were only twelve though.

Scaredy has a new favourite place, on top of one of the wardrobes. He changes his favourite place every four or five days.

He takes a big leap up and arrives. When he wants to get down he just aims at the bed and plops onto it.

He has had some amazing favourite places, some really looking most uncomfortable. The airing cupboard was a popular one and so was on top of the boiler. Wonder where Plumpy likes to go.

Enjoyed your post today. Cherries even look good. Not sure about the cat or what he is looking at. Are your spitting seeds again?

So that was YOU hitting me with those cherry stones!
Thanks for the good wishes on my retirement, I'm already enjoying not having to go to work. And thanks for the reading advice, I'm off to the Library to see what they have.
I haven't been blogging for a few days, we have had a long weekend Strawberry Festival to celebrate Canada Day, lot's of things to do, people to see, check it out on my blog.

Yes, this is a husky, note one blue eye and one brown eye, there were three of them harnessed to a small cart, they love to pull. These particular huskies were "rescued" from owners who didn't know what trouble they were getting into when they acquired the sweet little fluffy puppy... didn't anticipate the howling, digging, chewing, chicken-killing, running away...... ask me how I know, well, I had one for 13 years!
I have been following the news about the rain in UK, it seems non-stop, and you had such nice weather earlier in the year. We have rain today, the first rain for 4 weeks, the grass is yellow and crunchy underfoot. Quite a contrast eh?

Delicious! That bowl of cherries is so pretty on the blue check tablecloth. Love the contrasting colors.
Your Scaredy cat is quite the acrobat! My 16 year old cat hasn't ever been able to jump that high, even in her youth!

I hope you washed the pollution off before you ate them.

Coincidentally did you know Cherries contain anthocyanins, which is the red pigment in berries. Cherry anthocyanins have been shown to reduce pain and inflammation. Anthocyanins are also potent antioxidants. Cherries have also been shown to contain high levels of melatonin. Research has shown that people who have heart attacks have low melatonin levels. Besides being an anti-oxidant, melatonin has also been shown to be important for the function of the immune system. Research also indicates that melatonin suppresses COX-2. There is considerable interest at present in the use of fresh cherries or cherry juice to treat gout - a painful inflammatory joint condition.

Cherries are one of the many things that T has gone off...

Let me see...

Well Lorenzo, my favouritest place in the whole world would have to be Mum's lap.

But when Mum's not around I like anything that looks remotely uncomfortable and collects hair well. Really well. In fact the more hair I can leave behind the better. Laundry (preferably clean), Mum's uniform, dark furniture and lap-top bags are all particulary useful and fun places to sleep.

The cherry picture (red, white and blue) was especially pretty on the Fourth of July. :-)
