The Simpsons

Tickets had been booked for Ann, Nina, and myself to see The Simpsons. When I told Peter, he said he wanted to come too. He hates being left out of anything. We hadn't included him in the first place as he has often made his views on the Simpsons very clear and it didn't occur to us he might actually wish to attend. We couldn't get him a ticket on the same row as us, but we did manage to find him one on the row ahead. I had visions of going 'shhhhhhhh ...' if he so much as rustled a sweet paper during the performance. I have always wanted to do that.

Peter fortifying himself with a large Jack Daniels before the performance.

The cinema was packed with shouting, yelling children rushing about. They were stuffing their faces with nasty, smelly popcorn and making slurping noises while sucking up disgusting looking liquid through a straw. Eventually the racket died down enough to hear the familiar Simpsons music. The little boy on my left finished slurping his dayglo green drink and carelessly tossed the plastic beaker down a few rows, landing on a small girl's shoulder.

Oh how I love the Simpsons, especially the womenfolk.

Hero of heroes, lovely Marge.

Budding hero Lisa

Potential hero Maggie

Just as I was really getting into the film, in spite of the boy on my left, who was now stuffing foul smelling popcorn into his mouth, I glanced across at Peter on the row in front, and HE WAS ASLEEP! How can anyone a) sleep during such a noisy film with Homer shouting the odds every few seconds and b) having various missiles landing in his lap by some of the more enthusiastic children. I nudged Ann, sitting on my right, pointed at Peter and we both sniggered!

The film progressed. Ouch. I had to turn away. Poor Homer. I'm such a wimp I can't cope with people being hurt on screen, even such anti-heroes as Homer and Bart!

What a couple of plonkers.

Peter woke up, and started watching. 'Who is that?' he mouthed across to me:

'Grandpa' I mouthed back.

The child next to me was picking his nose.

We sat and watched until the very last credit had disappeared. So did the boy next to me. He had decided to sit quietly and watch the screen, so we all had to squeeze by him to get out while he just sat on in a state of total oblivion.

Peter and I then went to have a meal in Il Pomodora, our local Italian restaurant. This is a really nice little place, unpretentious and fairly inexpensive if you go easy on the liqueurs. Once a few years ago, we were having a meal there and David and Victoria Beckham were a few tables away, with one of their little boys and a couple of heavies looking after them.

In between courses I sent Maalie a text: 'Just seen the Simpsons'. A couple of minutes later I got one back simply saying 'wah. nonsense'. He's turning into a really grumpy old man!

I wonder if anyone else but Ju's Little Sister and Raela have difficulty when trying to type. This is Scaredy, asleep on the printer, waking up and spotting me and then coming to get me.

I'll just have to take Badger for a walk now it's stopped raining. Sorry Scaredy!

My toe is beginning to heal but I still have to be careful. I find I can cycle ok, but Peter has somehow manage to deflate my front tyre while trying to pump it up for me, and it doesn't appear to want to be inflated again. TCA ..... HELP !!!

Great blog as always! Although you do neglect to mention that we had 4 popcorn-munching, coke-slurping, sweetie-rustling brats in our own party (even excluding You and Peter).

Glad you both enjoyed the 'Pom'. Had no idea the Beckams had been in Poynton?!

I neglected to mention the four assorted boys who somehow attached themselves to our party, in case anyone thought the disgusting little boy on my left had anything to do with us!

Oh yes, Mr and Mrs Beckham used to live in Alderley Edge, and when they wanted to rough it a bit, they came to Poynton!

That's no slur on the Pom incidentally. That is a brilliant place.

I'm afraid I would have been sitting with Peter - probably asleep too -

Glad your toe is healing. One doesn't know that a toe, especially the big one, is quite so important until one looses its function or feels its pain!

Preparing a response to your lovely last comment - it just require a bit more thinking than my brain was ready for as we have just returned (my daughter and I) from out of town helping our best friends move away (sniff, sob)

Lovely to hear from you Wren. Have you read the latest Harry Potter? I'm reading between sudoku games whilst lying in state!

Hmmm. Nothing so nauseating as kids in the cinema. Except kids at Christmas and kids on the beach when you're fishing.

I haven't been to the cinema in months. And only twice in total since I've been here - both times when Matt was away (he doesn't understand the Spanish, all films are dubbed over here)). I scampered gleefully to the cinema on the same day he left both times. Usually I have to wait until a film becomes available to rent if I want to see it.

Lovely photos of Scaredy, as always. I'd love to give him a stroke as he looks so soft and cuddly. You'll have to give him extra ones for me.

in TV Land,
if i could not be Patsy,
i would want to be Marge...

if i live long enough
i am going to be a Blue-Hair.

that is what we call
the older ladies with white hair
who put that bluish rinse
on their hair
so it doesn't look yellow...

a Blue-Hair.

do they do that over your way?

Your photos and text are hilarious. A side from the pop corn fights, I bet you had a lot of fun watching the Simpsons! Scardely seems to like computer stuff!
Take care.

Hi badger !

Lorenzo, what a hillarious account.
better than the simpsopns, i am not quite familiar with them, i have seen a few episodes on the TV and i don't watch much TV. But as you recommend i would love to watch the movie. My friend Arshi who now lives near Portsmouth, took me to 'Chicken Run' We used to get pop corn in tightly packed polythene bags. While trying to open it one kid spilled the whole thing and the popcorn was scattered all over the theatre. i am pretty much used to the noise children make and i like it.

My old keyboard had a power button, my cat ginger, who unfortunately disappeared ( i suspect the gypsies caught him) used to walk on my keyboard shutting down the system. i have posted his pictures in some old blog.
hillarious and heart warming post Lorenzo. hope the toe is fine now

Oh you nearly had dinner with the Beckhams !! Wow !

I would have thought that everyone in the theatre would have been eating pink donuts and drinking beers.

That was a lively day for a woman whose foot has been bonky.

I meant to ask. Did Posh actually eat her dinner? I once served Heather Small from M People at the restaurant where I used to work in Macc. And Kevin Keegan used to come in quite often - always with the same horrible, burgundy polyseter jacket on.

What a couple of cuties, and I'm referring to Scaredy and Badger, not Bart and Homer.
I haven't ventured to the cinema to see The Simpsons yet... maybe I will, maybe I won't. I'm not inspired either way.

Horse riding?? Are you completely bonkers?
I haven't even been able to ride my bike yet, but that's cos of the huge bootee thing I'm supposed to wear, it won't fit on the pedal.
The remainder of the stitches come out tonight, Yippee!

Hello Scaredy. Thanks for the compliment, which was great coming from such a handsome puss. Mum gave me the strokes, which were very nice, but I would´ve preferred to have had you here in person for snuggles and a good lick. Perhaps you could hop on a plane and come to visit one day? We´ve already invited Plumpy but his mum wouldn´t let him buy a plane ticket - maybe you could come up with one of your cunning plans for him and we can have a catfest here on my mountain.

Hi! I've already voted for you (at word imp)! Fun story, the simpsons one, typical isn't it? Surely some kids weren't kicking with their feet at the back of your seat as well? 'Bout my blog, I'm doing a sort of social service and that's part of it, though I'm planning now on making a blog about my stuff, which I've given a lot of thought, I'm not really sure. We'll see.
K, that's it for now. ;)

Thanks for your kind input. I'm hoping for a miracle for her.

The most recent movie we've seen is Paris, Je t'aime; and before that, Harry P.

Hi. great blog you have here! I love that pic of Peter fortifying himself before the outing! And your description of all those children - fantastic! And what beautiful animals you have.

Craver Vii said...

I rather enjoy a certain amount of noisiness of children when they're excited about simple things.

Hey, have you seen this thing where you can get a Simpsons cartoon version of yourself? I tried it. Here's me with my new goatee. It's pretty cool; check it out.

Tubeless tyres sometimes lose the bead and therefore require re seating.

If you take your bike to the bike shop they can add a anti puncture aerisol and you never have to pump the tyre again and it protects against about 12 holes!

Sorry to here about your toe! That is so painful, I know, been there, done that and got the T-shirt!! Not sure how you get pics on your computer without scanning?? But this is where you go to create something similar http://rockyou.com/?refid=78949005

All the best Libby

Horseback riding - I am sooooooooo very jealous!! I love to do that and I haven't been in years!

All I've done lately is sit behind a computer and write grants - but today I'm going to yoga class at the gym and sweat off some of the sitting on my behind all the time ughness my body feels!

Very funny post! I love it!

Was the simpsons good, Homer is my hero!

I know how Peter feels, I took my boys to see Harry Potter and we were the only ones there so I made my coat in to a ball and had a nice 40 or so winks!

(I must get tickets to that new film Hairy Patty)

How's the toe Lorenzo ? Hope it is
healed completely

Merisi said...

I have always wanted to do that.
True love! *grin*

I giggled my way through your post. I guess you liked the movie, but not too much, because all the entertainment around you was so much better?

Sorry to hear about your toe (haven't been here for a while, travels and the like kept me from the truly important stuff), I hope it is back to working order, same for the bike.

No Lorenzo dear, I am anything but a yogi - unless of course you are referring to Yogi Bear. Yoga is good for my back, which has some permanent damage from the long-ago auto accident. But today, it felt more like torture than great exercise. I can really tell when I miss a week of twice weekly classes!

As to Craver's comment, I will have much more to say shortly - but there is one grant standing in the way of the next post and I keep finding myself falling asleep everytime my body gets a chance so am having a bit of trouble staying focused long enough to think through exactly how to say what I want to write.

I remain bitter and jealous that I am not riding horseback too - but not of the broken toe - I've had two of those and I certainly wouldn't trade - not even for a good horseback ride.

Hi lorenzothelamma!
Nice to meet you also. So glad you asked about the grandchildren. They are ages 7 and 9 years old. Noah is 9 and Amina in 7. They live in another state and I miss them a lot. I do get to see them several times a year; I get my next grandchild-fix later this month! No, I am not taking them to see The Simpsons!

I am glad you asked TCA for help with that tyre. I am hopeless with all things that can go wrong with the bike, and rely on the bike shop. Though I notice that TCA told you off somewhat! But simon came to the rescue! yeah the ozzie!

Lorenzo, this is awfully funny, I laughed out loud throughout, while trying to read it to my husband, Don. My kids and husband adore the Simpsons, and I'm afraid I'm more in Peter's camp. And I won't be seeing the movie, and I agree with rauf, your account is better anyway (I'm guessing). I have gotten to the point in movie theaters that I glare at people with candy wrappers and munching popcorn. Almost isn't worth going public for movies for me. We do Netflix now mostly. How unsocial we are.

I'm sorry about your toe, don't know what happened. Hope you put some spit on it as rauf suggested. It works wonders for him.

BTW, my photoblog has more photos of Ireland: http://flying.my-expressions.com. Hope you'll come over!
